'Non tailored to U.South. audience': NBC cuts tribute to London terror victims from Opening Ceremony circulate

The choreographer of a somber segment in the London Olympics opening anniversary said Saturday he'southward disappointed that NBC decided non to prove it to an American audition.

NEW YORK — The choreographer of a somber segment in the London Olympics opening ceremony said Sabbatum he's disappointed that NBC decided not to prove it to an American audience.

Spectators were asked to display photos of loved ones who could non exist there during the segment. The music, a hymn called "Abide With Me," was described in the ceremony program as an "honest expression of the fright of approaching decease."

NBC producers did not air it, instead showing American viewers Ryan Seacrest's interview with swimmer Michael Phelps.

"I am disappointed," said Londoner Akram Khan, who choreographed and danced in the segment. "I am really sad that I couldn't bear witness the work in America, and that really upsets me, because I don't remember it'south whatever more than or less than the other pieces. It brings to mind the question … that maybe information technology's too truthful."

The ceremony'due south program describes the performance as dramatizing "the struggle betwixt life and death using such powerful images of mortality as dust and the setting sun."

Some in the British press take interpreted the segment equally being a tribute to victims of bomb attacks in July 2005 that killed 52 commuters and four suicide bombers on London's transit network. NBC is taking hits for other aspects of its Olympic coverage as well.

The American network is tape-delaying events to get them into lucrative prime-time viewing at nighttime. Viewers, therefore, must endeavor to keep themselves in the night for hours to avert knowing who'south won the events they might like to watch.

On Sat, NBC didn't telecast the much-hyped Michael Phelps-Ryan Lochte 400 IM swim showdown as information technology happened, only still divulged results to viewers of its Nightly News hours earlier.

NBC says its record-delayed London opening ceremony was its most-watched summertime Games opening ever.
